SHARPNESS made hard work of progressing in the County Cup as they needed extra-time to beat Northern Senior League Division Two side Smiths.
Ian Watkins scored twice just before half-time to put the Sharks in control but Smiths came back with a vengeance and scored two excellent goals.
Both sides had chances to score but extra-time had to be played and in the first minute of the second half, Matt Frankham scored with a header.
Sharpness goalkeeper Pete Waite made a magnificent save before Frankham put the result beyond doubt with his second.
The Sharks will meet Broadwell in the semi-finals in a hectic schedule before the end of the season. They also have a big injury list with many games to catch up on in the league.
On Sunday, Wotton Rovers beat Sharpness 2-0 in the Stroud Charity Cup.
