AS A Bristol City supporter of over ten years I haven’t experienced too many drubbings.
The two that do spring to mind was firstly a 6-1 defeat at home to Wolves in November 1998 and more recently a 7-1 thumping at Swansea City in September 2006.
The latter result cost then manager Brian Tinnion his job following a poor run of results.
Following Tuesday’s humiliating 6-0 home defeat to Cardiff City, many fans will be questioning whether current manager Gary Johnson has taken the club as far as he can. I’ll be honest, I left early in the second half after the fifth goal went in. Gone was the loyalty and patience I had in ‘98 where I sat through the entire second half as Wolves tore us apart.
City actually started pretty well and new signing Jamal Campbell-Ryce looked dangerous on the left flank. But Cardiff scored on their first attack of the game with City ‘keeper Dean Gerken and defender Bradley Orr seemingly at fault. Worse was to follow as calamitous City defending gifted the visitors another three goals before the break.
In the January transfer window Johnson has brought in a winger in Campbell-Ryce and also striker Patrick Agyemang, yet it appears City now have more pressing issues at the back. The previously reliable Fontaine and Carey are now off form and full backs Orr and McAllister are also attracting plenty of criticism for their recent perfomances.
City have Middlesbrough away on Saturday, who put four past Doncaster in their last outing. I am sure I’m not the only City fan that’s fearing the worst for our trip to the north east.
Do you agree with Will’s views? Should Gary Johnson stay or go? Have your say below.
