TAVERNERS visited the Alveston Oval and decided to bat first after winning the toss.
Opening batsmen Jackson and Davies immediately set about building their innings with a century opening stand as opening bowlers Matt Roberts and Lloyd Allen bowled well on a hard track without success.
Rob Dent made the breakthrough as he enticed Jackson (46) to lob a full toss to Josh Tovey at mid-off.
Amos and Davies added 58 for the second wicket.
The re-introduction of Allen finally accounted for Davies (57), who was well stumped by Andy Plummer.
Amos (36) then departed in the same fashion shortly afterwards, this time to a more difficult leg side stumping. Wickets then continued to fall as Taveners slipped from 158-1 to 222-8 at the end of their 45 overs, with Allen claiming four wickets including a third stumping.
Roberts claimed three wickets.
Alveston began their pursuit in solid fashion with 17-year-old Dan Jelf (26) batting well following his promotion from the seconds, accompanied by the imperious John Martin (35), who stroked several classy cover drives.
After both openers had departed Matt Roberts (39) and Mike Dent attacked the bowling to lift the run rate to the required level before Roberts departed with the score on 154.
Tovey (11) and Mike Dent took the score to 191 before Tovey was caught in the deep.
Mike Dent then calmly took his side to victory as he raced to 90 not out with 12 fours and two sixes He was joined by his brother and skipper Rob, who hit the winning run with an over to spare.
BDCA Second XI Division Four Patchway (250-7) beat Alveston (142) by 108 runs A below strength Alveston side made the short trip to Patchway and chose to bowl.
Runs were hard to come by as opening bowlers Sam Rees and Stuart Edmonds bowled well.
Edmonds picked up opener Shaun Morgan for six and Rees removed Richard Pierce thanks to a fantastic one handed catch by youngster Josh Williams.
Ashley Milburn was cleaned up by Mark Issacs for 17.
Skipper Paul Thompson and Dave Leahy moved the score along at pace before Williams removed Thompson for a superb 48 and Ziggy Watts accounted for Leahy (41).
Andy Simpson carried on the good work with a quick-fire 54 which helped Patchway to an imposing 250-7 after 45 overs.
Alveston openers Doug Jackson and Paul Ferragut were watchful until Jackson’s error of judgment led to his run out.
Ferragut departed next over for ten and the hosts were on top.
Watts came in and struck the ball well for a cultured 40, however, no one else hung around with him in the middle order apart from debutant Ian Williams, who was left high and dry not out on 38.
Alveston will look to get back to winning ways when they host Bristol Sri Lankans on Saturday, 2pm.
