MATT TYLER smashed a century to lead Rockhampton to their first win of the season aganst Dumbleton.

Having opted to bat, Dumbleton made solid progress on a good batting track.

A number of top order batsmen made significant contributions, whilst wickets from James Hancox and Sam Nicholls (2-44), and sharp fielding from Simon Hore and Nigel Hopkins, kept the score in check.

Michael Beard (2-94) also bowled well in the middle overs as Rockhampton managed to keep the Dumbleton scoring rate in check.

Hancox (15-3-47-4) returned well in the closing overs, picking up wickets to help restrict Dumbleton to 266-9.

Despite a significant total to chase, Rockhampton openers Beard and Matt Tyler made a positive and assured start to the chase.

By the time Beard fell for 40, Rockhampton were already in a commanding position.

Will Tyler joined his brother at the crease, making a brisk 22 before falling as rain threatened to interrupt proceedings.

Hore then smashed a classy 35 as Matt Tyler reached a superb century.

The partnership took Rockhampton to the brink of victory before Hore was bowled by the impressive Tom Green.

Sam Phelps (14*) then bludgeoned the winning wins, including a massive six over long off, as Rockhampton cruised to victory inside 45 overs with Matt Tyler carrying his bat for 128.

Rockhampton host Marshfield at the Boundary Field on Saturday, looking to make it two wins on the bounce.

WEPL Glos/Wilts Division 2nd XI Rockhampton (189) lost to Dumbleton (341) by 152 runs A disappointingly one-sided contest at The Boundary Field was dominated by an experienced Dumbleton side who were given little resistance other than an elegant 62 from Rockhampton debutant Mike Nichols.

Dumbleton opening batsman George Sharp set the tone with a brutal 98 that included several large sixes, but he fell lbw to David Long.

His batting partner Graeme Piesse made 57 and he was dismissed by young spinner Tom Coates.

Jamie Curtis had bowled a brilliant opening spell without reward but he got Nick Holland for 71 with Coates this time taking the catch at square-leg.

Tom Cox collected two late wickets for the Rams but the visitors had made the most of another good batting track.

Skipper Jimmy Cooke responded well with the bat, hitting six boundaries in a brisk 36.

Despite the loss of Cox for just three, he was joined by Mike Nichols and the pair took the score to 77-1.

Cooke was caught flicking the ball off his legs to a very sharp catch by the wicket-keeper and then the Rams lost Dave Peacey for three and Carl Boucher for 0.

Nichols played magnificently on debut, though, hitting straight and through the covers for the majority of his 12 boundaries before he was adjudged lbw to the impressive Elliot for 62.

Elliot went on to bag six wickets for 46 runs, getting Long for 15 and Holder for 12.

Jamie Curtis clubbed 23 at the end but the Rams were dismissed in 38.5 overs and will look for a dramatic turn in fortune as they travel to Marshfield this Saturday.
