CAM-BASED hockey player Dave Gardner will attend a trial for England Masters on Sunday at Reading Hockey Club.
The Bristol and West head coach has reached this level for the first time after over 30 years of playing and coaching senior hockey.
He and Wickwar-based Mike Wingent earned bronze medals with the West of England Masters team at the England Hockey Regional tournament in Nottingham recently.
The West of England started with a 7-0 win against Wales and followed it up with a 1-0 win over the East.
Against strong favourites South, they settled for a 0-0 draw to leave the West joint top of their group.
The West got off to a flyer in the semi-final against the North with Bristol and West’s Mike Wingent scoring inside five minutes.
However, the North caught the West on the break and scored three times to win the game and go onto the final, where they beat the South.
The West beat the Midlands in the third/fourth place play-off to win bronze.
