AT Gloucester Rugby’s end of season awards dinner, Renishaw presented the award for Young Player of the Season to Dursley youth product Charlie Sharples.
The winger has had a memorable season for the club, which culminated with a hat-trick of tries against Sale in the club’s final home game of the season.
It was a good evening for Sharples, who was also voted runner-up in the Player of the Season category and shortlisted for Try of the Season.
The sponsorship of the Young Player of the Season award by Renishaw entitled its 1,500 Gloucestershire-based staff to vote for the award, along with Gloucester Rugby’s season ticket holders and members of their 1873 Club.
Chris Pockett, Renishaw’s Head of Communications, who presented the award to Sharples, said: “Charlie was a clear favourite with our staff, a sizeable number of whom are Cherry and White fans, and their voting was very much in line with that of other Gloucester supporters.
“It was a great awards evening at Kingsholm and we are very pleased to be associated with Gloucester Rugby, which is not only a great rugby club, but also a great community club.”
Last year Renishaw announced the donation of £15,000 over a two-year period to Gloucester Rugby’s Playing for Success scheme which provides out of school educational activities for nine to 13-year-old children.
The funding is being provided by the company’s UK Charities Committee which supports charities and voluntary organisations throughout the Gloucestershire and Bristol region. Sharples played in Gloucester’s 12-10 Premiership semi-final defeat at Saracens on Sunday.
