SLIMBRIDGE boss Leon Sterling is hoping to keep most of his squad together for another assault on the Hellenic Premier League title next season.

The Swans followed up their fifth place finish in the league by lifting the Stroud Charity Cup with two second half goals, beating Yate Town Reserves in a close fought game at Frampton United.

After a long first season in charge after stepping up from the position as assistant manager, the summer break is a welcome one for Sterling and his squad before they start gearing up for the new campaign.

He said: “It’s the first time a lot of them have played this many games so I’ll give the lads a month to recharge their batteries and then chat to them about the season.

“One thing I have found is it’s a bit more exhausting running the team from being assistant and I’ve played a few games as well, so I think everyone needs a break.”

John Hazel and Jamie Martin scored the goals which secured the trophy for Slimbridge at the finale of a competition which has this season over £1,000 earned for charity.

Slimbridge have also announced that their end of season presentation evening will take place at the Clubhouse at Wisloe Road on Friday, May 27, with a 7.30pm start.

The AGM follows on Wednesday, June 1 at 7pm and all are welcome to attend both.
