Brimsham Green suffered a narrow defeat in the final of the national schools cup competition, played at Bristol Rovers’ Memorial Stadium last week.
The girls progressed through all nine rounds of the competition, which whittled down from 416 schools to just two before facing very worthy opposition in St Bede’s School from Blackburn.
It was a very close first half, but just before the break Gabrielle Taylor gave St Bede’s the lead.
In the second half, no goals were scored due to the hard work of Brimsham Green and their goalkeeper Ellie Soper, who was awarded player of the match by her team-mates Brimsham Green PE teacher Ceri Hayward said: “Reaching the final was a huge achievement and we are all very proud of the team.
“We had a good crowd of supporters on the day, which included 25 pupils, three members of staff, the headteacher, an assistant head teacher and a school governor, and many parents and families of the girls.
“I would also like to thank Mr Denning for all of his time and effort he has put into the team, coaching every week and making all of their games.
“Congratulations to all the team who have played, not only in the final, but in the games to get there.”
