Chipping Sodbury returned to winning ways with victory over newly promoted Bristol Asians at the Ridings.

Although the winning margin was comfortable in the end, the game was in the balance with ten overs to go.

With the game reduced to 36 overs per side due to the rain Sodbury were asked to bat first.

Bryan Jater and Jerry Swatton put on 59 before Swatton was first to be dismissed for 25.

Jater reached his half-century and Rich Howell soon followed.

They added 103 for the second wicket before Jater was lbw for a well made 63.

Howell then raced to his century and finished on 119 not out from just 75 balls with 12 fours and four immaculately timed sixes. With Harry Webb hitting a quick-fire 17, Sodbury posted an imposing total.

The visitors got off to a flying start as the opening pair raced to 42.

However, Jamie Wakefield made the initial breakthrough and Jay Penfold soon got in on the act.

The introduction of Jon Toghill (2-54) brought about more wickets as Bristol Asians faltered at 72-4.

An explosive fifth wicket stand turned the game as they added 92 runs in quick time and with 10 overs to go Bristol Asians needed just a run a ball.

Jamie Rendell broke the partnership then Wakefield helped the skipper rip through the tail.

The last six wickets fell for just 16 with Rendell (3-23) and Wakefield (4-45) the chief destroyers.
