Golfers at The Bristol Golf Club in Almondsbury last week could be forgiven for believing that they were seeing things.
Four sporting legends from the world of darts and snooker met at the popular local club for 18 holes of golf.
Former World Champion darts player, and member of The Bristol GC, Bob Anderson, had a round of golf with three of his close friends, who just happened to all be former snooker World Champions – Dennis Taylor, John Parrott and Cliff Thorburn.
Anderson is a popular member of the club and plays every week.
He has been a member for three years and plays off a handicap of nine.
His three snooker-playing friends swapped their cues for clubs before heading to Weston-super-Mare for an exhibition snooker match.
“We had a very enjoyable game of golf,” said Parrott.
“The course was challenging but fair, and in great condition.
“It’s good to clear your mind with a round of golf before a snooker match.
“And victory for Dennis and me was particularly sweet.”
Anderson added: “It was hilarious seeing the double takes of some of the other golfers while we were playing.
“They couldn’t quite place us, and kept checking they had seen correctly.”
Ben Laing, general manager of The Bristol said: “Bob is a regular player here, and people don’t bat an eyelid at seeing him around, but to have four former World champions here at the same time – and playing together – really was a treat for us all. They are welcome back here any time.”
