CHARLIE SHARPLES scored a try on his England Saxons debut against the USA at Northampton on Saturday.
The former Dursley youth player came on in the 50th minute and outpaced the defence to touchdown with ten minutes to go in the record-breaking 87-8 win.
Sharples, 21, also set up his flat mate and Gloucester team-mate Henry Trinder as England began their defence of the Churchill Cup with the biggest win in the competition’s history.
The 21-year-old was delighted to wear the England shirt and is looking forward to the Saxons’ next clash against Tonga at his home ground in Gloucester on Sunday (2.30pm).
"It feels pretty good to have my first taste of Saxons action under my belt,” said Sharples.
"I was very happy to get on and get involved, and now fingers crossed I can play a part at Kingsholm.”
Former Winterbourne International Academy pupil Dave Attwood played the full 80 minutes against the USA.
