Alex Stepney, Dennis Irwin, Frank Stapleton, Pat Cerand, David Sadler, Jimmy Greenhoff, Lee Martin, Clayton Blackmore, Arthur Albiston, David May, and Andy Ritchie represented the Red Devils on Thursday and Friday to help raise about £6,000 towards the Children’s Hospice South West and Bristol Moonstone Appeal .

The Bristol Legends were made up of Geoff Twentyman, Lee Mears, Russell Osman, Paul Cheesley, Gary Owers, Gerry Sweeney, David Mehew, Glenn Catley, Steve Scott and Bobby Gould.

Local golfers also took part in the Cyder Cup, which saw teams of four joined by a legend from Manchester United or Bristol.

Stapleton joined Kendleshire trio Paul Regan - the brother of former England rugby star Mark Regan - Nigel Webb and Duncan Ferguson to help them win first prize.

The golf was followed by an evening and dinner at the Bristol Marriott Hotel, where top quality memorabilia was sold to raise money in an auction.

Event organiser Mark Jakeways hailed the event as a success, saying: “The golf went brilliantly and the Man United guys were over the moon with the way it went.”

“It was a great success.

“The weather was fantastic and the golf course was in brilliant shape.”
