Bottom side Trowbridge won for the first time this season against Rockhampton.

The confidence the Rams gained from their eight wicket win over local rivals Stroud in the previous week was apparent as they strangled the Trowbridge top order in the first 25 overs.

Returning Chris Pearce was the main beneficiary, picking up two wickets, but Rob Belbin (0-16-6-0) was also unlucky not to be rewarded for a fine spell.

Then sharp fielding from Jeremy White resulted in the run out of Luke Morris.

However, Adeel Malik bludgeoned a supberb 113 from 89 balls, receiving support from Andrew Pederson (28) and Mike Reynolds (46*).

Jack Spence (1-66) and James Hancox (1-66) toiled for little reward but picked up a wicket each to keep the score in check.

Chris Pearce (3-56) finally removed Malik as Trowbridge reached 220-6.

The Rockhampton reply started well with a brisk partner ship of 26 before both Rowan Cartlidge (15) and the in-form Matt Tyler (4) were left a little disgruntled with lbw decisions.

Simon Hore (2) and White (0) did little to trouble the scorers, and the loss of Will Tyler, who was hospitalised whilst fielding, did little to help Rockhampton’s cause.

Nigel Hopkins (40) was the mainstay of the innings, and when he briefly received support from Matt Belbin and Spence the chase seemed possible.

However, in the face of tidy bowling from Malik (2-16) and Toby Dorgan (4-28), the tail fell away.

Rockhampton hope to return to winning ways when they host Potterne next week.

WEPL Glos/Wilts Division 2nd XI Rockhampton (237-7) beat Trowbridge (102) by 135 runs

Rockhampton ended their run of five successive defeats with a thumping victory over Trowbridge.

A fluent innings from skipper Jimmy Cooke, who was agonisingly dismissed one run short of a maiden league century, set up a daunting chase for the visitors.

Trowbridge were blown away by the explosive pace and swing of William Cartlidge, who collected career best figures of 7-23 with the ball.

Cooke and Charlie Paterson shared a dominant stand of 109 in 26 overs before Paterson was dismissed for an accomplished 43.

Tom Cox made a brisk nine and Matt Taylor managed just four before Cooke was joined by Carl Boucher.

Having added 62 between them and taken the score to 200-3 in the 41st over Cooke had raced to 99 with 12 boundaries from 103 balls.

Having hit opposing Skipper Ali Goddard over his head for four, Cooke was brilliantly caught and bowled attempting the same stroke.

Boucher hit a belligerent 40 from just 32 balls, including two fours and a six in the final over and Sam Nichols added 16.

It was very much the Will Cartlidge show after tea as he dismissed dangerous opening batsman Paul Riddiford with his first delivery.

Taylor took a superb catch diving forward at point to give Nichols a wicket and Jayke Hudd and Alistair Goddard offered some resistance before Cartlidge continued his onslaught.

Six of his 7 wickets were clean bowled, the other being lbw, and from the other end Jamie Curtis collected 2-31 from his six overs, also hitting the stumps on both occasions.

The visitors were cleaned up in 25 overs and the Rams will look to use the momentum to reverse their fortunes and climb off the bottom of the table.
