Fromeside Gymnastics Club are celebrating after tremendous success at the Wiltshire Open Invitational competition in Melksham.

The event comprised five different levels of difficulty where the Fromeside girls competed against gymnasts from clubs across England and Wales.

The competition started with the youngest competitors in the level five.

Eight-year-old Oriel Powell performed excellent routines on all apparatus to achieve ribbons for placing first vault, first beam, first bars and third floor, winning the gold medal overall, two clear marks ahead of the silver medallist.

Nine-year-old Laura Westcott competed well to achieve ribbons for third vault and second bars, finishing fourth for another ribbon. Team-mate Alisha Walters, nine, finished 16th overall.

In the level four competition, Saiorse Maccana competed in the junior level to finish 21st overall.

In the level four seniors, there were great performances from 11-year-old Antonia Joy, achieving ribbons for coming second on bars, second on floor and third on beam, winning the bronze medal overall. Laoishe Maccana, 14, successfully gained a ribbon for third on bars and finished seventh overall. Aimee Melville, 13, finished 29th and 13-year-old Lauren Elliott competed only bars and beam due to an ankle injury.

Lydia Hayden, 12, competed in the level three seniors, again with excellent routines, with only an error of a missed connection on beam.

She achieved ribbons for placing first on vault, first on bars and second floor, winning the silver medal overall, missing the gold by only 0.20.

To top the weekend off the scores of Powell’s beam, Hayden’s vault, Laoishe Maccana’s bars, Joy’s floor and Melville’s floor were successful in winning the club team competition, the Monica’s Medley Cup, for Fromeside.
