NEW recruit Robert Gummer has proved a real asset to the Slimbridge bowling attack so far this season, but even he could not have imagined what was about to happen as he took to the field with his team-mates at the SCG on Saturday to face Minchinhampton.

As the teams occupying second and third place in the Stroud Premier Division clashed, Slimbridge skipper Nigel Evans won the toss and threw the ball to Gummer to open the bowling from the pavilion end of the ground.

In a spell described as ‘the best I’ve ever seen bowled at Slimbridge’ by club treasurer Bill Church, Gummer tore apart the Minchinhampton batting lineup, finishing with figures of 9-26 from 11.2 overs.

Gummer clean bowled seven batsmen, whilst also claiming one lbw and one caught behind by Paul Allam.

Minchinhampton were bowled out for 60 in the 24th over with the returning Dave Tudor also picking up a wicket.

Slimbridge opening batsmen Adam Chalkley and Bill Church were in no mood to hang around.

In a return to form, Chalkley plundered a quick-fire 40 not out to end the game after just 9.2 overs.

Slimbridge travel to Rockhampton 3rds on Saturday.
