SKIPPER Alex Gidman hit 76 not out to guide Gloucestershire to a four-wicket win over Surrey in Division Two of the Championship.
After being set 160 to win, Gloucestershire were in trouble on 54-5 before Gidman put on 67 with Richard Coughtrie (10) and then an unbroken 40 with Ed Young (21*) to see them home inside three days at The Oval.
Ian Saxelby put Gloucestershire in a strong position with ten wickets in the match, taking a career-best 6-69 as Surrey were bowled out for 195 in their second innings.
Chris Taylor hit 52 in the first innings as Gloucestershire scored 261 in response to Surrey’s 225.
Gloucestershire’s next County Championship game is against Middlesex at Uxbridge, starting on Monday.
