FOREST GREEN will start their Blue Square Premier campaign at home to Dietmar Hamann’s Stockport County on Saturday, August 13.

Stockport were relegated from League Two last season after 105 years in the Football League, but have since been taken over by a Liverpool-based consortium and they appointed Hamann as their new manager on Tuesday.

Hamann enjoyed an illustrious playing career and came on as a half-time substitute to help Liverpool overturn a 3-0 deficit to win the 2005 Champions League final against AC Milan in Istanbul.

He made 59 caps for Germany and scored the last goal at the old Wembley Stadium when they beat England 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier in 2000, but will start his managerial career in far different surroundings at the New Lawn.

Rovers face another tough clash three days later when they visit title favourites Luton Town in their first away game, followed by a trip to Blue Square Premier new boys Alfreton Town on August 20.

Forest Green’s first derby of the season is against Bath City at the New Lawn on Monday, August 29 and once again they will play Kidderminster Harriers twice over the festive period, with the away game on Boxing Day and the return encounter on New Year’s Day.

They will complete their league campaign at York City on April 28, with the last home game against Darlington a week earlier.

Rovers are currently 25/1 to win the league and 14/1 to win promotion with the league’s sponsors Blue Square.
