CAM'S winless run continued, but not after a spirited team effort brought them close against Cheltenham Civil Service.

Pete Hall was bowled by Kevin Stephens with a ball that kept very low early in Cam’s innings.

Ben Williams and Stuart Newman showed great patience and steadily built an innings.

Williams reached his first 50 of the season with a square drive for four. With 15 overs to go both men increased the pace as Newman reached his first half-century since returning to Cam, before being caught behind for 53.

Williams followed moments after for 82, the returning Matthew Barratt claiming both wickets.

After an opening spell of 0-40, Barratt cleaned up the middle order with figures of 6-19.

Adam Holloway was the only man to fend off Barratt, scoring 25 with some quick running between the wickets.

In the Civil Service innings, Ben Holloway claimed his first wicket and with Gareth Udal bowling quickly the run rate was limited to two per over.

Udal made another catch off the bowling of Holloway to leave the visitors on 28-2.

Craig Baker and Barratt built a partnership, but a steepling shot by Barratt was put down by Williams off the bowling of Matt Tipper.

Both men reached 50 and were set at a steady run rate.

The introduction of Ryan Western into the attack provided problems for both batsmen and he was unlucky not to have a wicket from his spell.

The return of Holloway saw Baker finally fall for 92 as he was clean bowled.

Barratt fell two balls later after he was run out backing up as Holloway tipped the ball onto the stumps.

But it was too little, too late for Cam.
