KANE WILLIAMSON hit a century on his return to help Gloucestershire rescue a draw against County Championship league leaders Derbyshire.
The New Zealand international hit 128 and shared a century partnerships with Benny Howell (64) and stand-in skipper Hamish Marshall (90) to lead Gloucestershire to safety on 409-4 in their second innings.
Derbyshire took charge early on by scoring 388 in their first innings with Wayne Madsen hitting 101. Ian Saxelby and James Fuller took three wickets apiece for Gloucestershire.
Chris Dent hit a half-century for Gloucestershire, but it was not enough for them to avoid the follow-on as they were bowled out for 206 with Tony Palladino picking up 5-47.
However, Gloucestershire batted out for almost two days to defy Derbyshire’s bowlers the second time around.
