FORMER Dursley player Ben Morgan has been named in England’s squad for the tour to South Africa despite fears over a torn hamstring.
The Gloucester-bound No 8 limped off late on in his 50th and final appearance for the Scarlets in their 29-20 RaboDirect PRO12 victory over Cardiff Blues and is awaiting the results of a scan.
However, England coach Stuart Lancaster has included Morgan in the 42-man party.
Morgan’s former Dursley youth team-mate Charlie Sharples misses out as he is due to undergo shoulder surgery.
Experienced internationals Danny Care and James Haskell have returned to the squad, while Tom Youngs is amongst 13 uncapped players included.
Lancaster said: “Myself and Graham (Rowntree, forwards coach) rang the players yesterday and there is a real excitement about this squad. “We have a massive challenge ahead of us but it is one that everybody involved, players, coaches and management is looking forward to.”
England will play five matches during the tour, including three Tests against South Africa in June.
