BERKELEY Town did themselves proud in front of a massive following by claiming the Harry Greening Trophy with a hard fought victory over Longlevens.
The Hunters settled quicker with some patient possession football resulting in early chances for Paul Brookes and Ben Gillison.
Brookes had another chance to give his side the lead on 20 minutes but his first time effort from the edge of the area struck the upright.
Longlevens then enjoyed the better of the possession, until the Hunters broke forward. Mike Bryant laid the ball to Michael Reece, whose cross was met at the far post by the head of James Mackie to give his side the lead on the half-hour mark.
Longlevens did have a chance to draw the scores level before half-time when they were awarded a penalty for what looked to be a harsh decision against Nathan Freeman for handball in the area.
However, the Hunters were reprieved when keeper Lee Mason not only saved the spot kick but also managed to keep out the follow up effort from point blank range.
The start of the second half saw Longlevens push for an equaliser, and the Hunters were thankful for keeper Mason and Tom Palmer for several blocks.
The Hunters always proved a threat on the counter attack, and they doubled there lead in the 65th minute.
A corner from Palmer was met by the head of Bryant, who couldn’t miss from six yards.
Longlevens continued to commit players forward in the final 20 minutes, but they were thwarted by some excellent defending.
With ten minutes remaining the Hunters sealed victory when substitute Tom Andrews broke clear to beat the advancing keeper from 40 yards.
