BEN Wright insists Forest Green’s six strikers will need to display togetherness to help fire David Hockaday’s side into the Football League.

The 6ft 2ins striker, who overcame a growing disorder as a child, agreed a two-year contract at The New Lawn last week after smashing 18 goals with Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Braintree Town last season.

Squad rotation will be in evidence for the first time next season as Rovers boss Dave Hockaday has an embarrassment of striking riches with Magno Vieira, Phil Marsh, Matty Taylor, James Norwood and Reece Styche all vying for a starting place in his trusted 4-3-3 formation. Speaking to the Gazette ahead of his holiday to Las Vegas, 23-year-old Wright said: “The quality up front is immense and we certainly have goals in the team.

“We’re all in it together and will have to show patience and support each other in order to get promotion.”

The engaging front man started his youth career with Norwich and Southampton before making his senior debut for his hometown club Basingstoke at the age of 17.

He went on to have spells at Championship side Peterborough United, Luton Town, Crawley, Town, Newport and Hayes and Yeading.

Forest Green’s stated promotion aim made Wright’s decision to leave Alan Devonshire’s Braintree a no-brainer.

He said: “The ambitions that the club has got means it’s an attractive club and it’s clearly going places.

“We had a great season at Braintree and I really enjoyed myself up there but I don’t think it is difficult leaving because of the size of the two clubs.”

Wright is now determined to kick-start a new era at the New Lawn He said: “They’ve already got the facilities, the pitch was lovely last time when I came here and apparently it is going to be even better this year so I’m looking forward to playing on it.”

Wright is no stranger to Forest Green having scored in Braintree’s 2-0 win in Nailsworth at the start of last season and he’s previously struck a hat-trick against Hockaday’s side while playing for Hayes and Yeading United.
